The Flip Side of Manifestation

You’ve heard me say, many times, “Your words and thoughts have power.”

You can attract more of what you want simply by focusing your energy. When you visualize success, love, health, and abundance flowing your way and open yourself up to receive it, that’s a manifestation in action. You trust, and the universe delivers.

But what about when you can’t keep from worrying and it feels like the only manifesting you’re capable of is the negative kind.

I call that the flip side of manifestation.

Right now, it seems like the entire world is on edge, bombarded by reports of the Coronavirus and trying to predict the effect it will have on our collective health, financial security, and way of life.

In your heart, you know that taking sensible precautions while maintaining a healthy mindset is the best way to navigate through hard times. You switch off the news and try to connect with the most positive people you can find. But we’re all human, and it’s hard not to glance at the news feed on your phone or engage in speculation with co-workers. And that can send you down a rabbit hole of fear and negativity.

So, here’s the question. How do you stop attracting what you don’t want when it’s virtually everywhere you look?

Trust that the universe has a plan.

I remember years ago I was at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck New York teaching a workshop. The session ran a little late that night, and I had plans to have dinner in town with friends. I didn’t want to be late, but as I rushed to open my car door, I realized I had left my car keys back in my room. Frustrated, I made the long trek to retrieve them, and fifteen minutes later I was on the road. Realizing that there was only one way to the restaurant and there was nothing I could do to speed up the trip, I took a few deep breaths and centered myself. As I got closer to my destination I saw the flashing lights of police cars and fire trucks just ahead. There had been a terrible accident involving several cars just fifteen minutes earlier. If I hadn’t forgotten my keys, I would likely have been involved in the accident. With a totally new perspective, I realized the inconvenience of forgetting my keys and my fear of being late was insignificant in the face of what could have happened. The point of the story? You can’t always tell if life is handing you a challenge or a blessing. You have to take a deep breath, put one foot in front of the other, and accept the fact that you are not in control.

Which leads me to my next point.

Look for the lifeline.

Think of yourself trying to control something like traffic, or someone else’s actions, or a medical crisis. You can’t, but in trying, what you’re doing is holding on to the vibration of stress and anxiety. And that makes things worse. Plus, while you’re in that state you’re likely to overlook ways to deal with the problem in a constructive way. The universe might be throwing you a lifeline and you’re too frantic to notice. Stay calm and clear-headed, and you’re suddenly able to see a path through the chaos or at least figure out a way to weather the storm.

Turn fear inside out.

Fear is a strong emotion, but you can be stronger. Here’s how. Try focusing outward – rather than worrying about what’s going to happen and how it will impact you, but all that aside. Think of what you can do to help the people around you. Coming from a place of love and compassion will change your vibration and have a positive impact on others. I call this turning fear inside out. By focusing outward you release negativity, instead of holding it inside.
